Project Overview

Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus often referred to as The ARC, is a new two story 85,000 SF building serving the Washington DC community by promoting recreation, performing arts, education and health. The tenants include the Levine School of Music, Washington Middle School for Girls, the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, parklands Community Center, Trinity University and the Children’s Health Project of DC.

The building’s first floor features a glass enclosed two story entry which opens into the main lobby area. The main lobby provides entrance to the 350 seat Theatre. These areas are highlighted by the use of pembroke (red) ground face block and the same material is used extensively inside the Theatre. Painted concrete masonry is used throughout the office areas and the Gymnasium.

The building’s exterior features split face, mesastone and ground face architectural concrete masonry units. Each of these materials was utilized in both Pembroke red and adobe white colors with three different patterns and two colors of mortar being incorporated into the façade. This masonry design was a very challenging blend of materials, colors and patterns.
