Project Overview

The St. Coletta School of Greater Washington, located adjacent to D.C. General Hospital, D.C. Armory and RFK Stadium, is a two story, 100,000 square foot teaching and training facility with Gymnasium. Designed by signature architect Michael Graves, the exterior of the building consists of heavily reinforced concrete masonry units, and very elaborate patterns of three separate glazed brick colors interwoven with two additional extruded brick colors and monumental cast stone sills, jambs, heads and copings.

The four main entrances feature glazed utility size brick arches with concealed lintel supports. The unique combination of white, red and blue brick colors will standout with travelers along the Independence Avenue and East Capitol Street corridors. The project was performed under fast track construction measures and scheduling, to allow the project to mitigate early permitting and regulatory delays. Tight site utilization and trade coordination was required to accommodate concurrent structural steel, concrete and masonry activities, and substantial completion of masonry within 70 days was required.
